Coffee Crush

My spirit guides know everything about me including that I love coffee. My drink is an Americano with cream and I have one every day. However, two months ago it began to bother my stomach, to the point that I had to switch to tea. I was lamenting the loss of my caffeine ritual to my facial rejuvenation acupuncturist, Brigitte. She listened, then asked in a matter of fact way, “Why don’t you just make cold-brewed coffee?” I replied, “What’s that?” My acupuncturist went on to explain something I didn’t know: coffee is far less acidic when it is cold-brewed. “It’s all I drink, you should try it.” After the appointment I picked up the supplies and made a batch. She was right. The cold-brewed coffee didn’t bother my stomach at all.

Only you fellow coffee lovers out there will understand the sheer joy of being reunited with your favorite cup of Joe. It’s bliss! Simple joys are the most precious and losing one is like giving up a piece of your heart. Our guides aren’t just concerned with lofty spiritual goals or momentous life experiences; they are interested in everything we are interested in—whether big or small, particularly if it makes us happy. For me, coffee isn’t just good tasting caffeine, it’s liquid joy and the moments I spend drinking it are a sacred part of my day. And that’s something neither my guides nor I want to give up.

When I went to the acupuncture appointment, I had already resigned myself to the fact that my coffee days were over. After all, I was there for a facial not a health issue. I had no reason to bring it up to Brigitte, but for some reason it popped into my mind and the words came out. When she immediately presented a solution, I knew that my spirit allies had prompted our conversation. Now I can have my coffee and drink it too. Moments of joy restored!

Here’s Brigitte’s Cold-Brewed Coffee recipe.

To make a batch:

½ pound fresh ground coffee of your choice (she likes Trader Joe’s Breakfast Blend).

½ pound decaf coffee of your choice (she likes Fred Meyers organic decaf).

Soak the grounds in 8 cups of water for 16 – 24 hours. Strain and store in the refrigerator.

To make a cup:

Pour *1/3 cup of cold brewed coffee into a cup.

Add hot water and en-‘joy.’

*Cold brewed coffee is concentrated, so play with the water and coffee ratio to your liking. You can also adjust the ratio of regular and decaf beans to your caffeine preference.
