What's in a Number?

Last week, I wrote a check for $45. There’s nothing noteworthy about that, except that the check was #4545. I’m not a mathematician, but I’m pretty sure the odds of that happening randomly are minute. Time to pay attention.
I study numerology, so numbers are important to me. I know that this is a message from spirit about the number 45 and 9 (4+5=9). I have a shelf full of numerology books, but my favorite is called Numerology: Spiritual Light Vibrations by Jeanne. I’ve had it for over twenty years, but I probably haven’t referenced it for three or more years. Once home I head up to my office to read about the number 45. I pull out the book and notice a page is bookmarked with a Post-it-note. It is the page for 45/9. Not only that, the page number is 234, another 9 (2+3+4=9). OK now this is definitely noteworthy!
Over twenty-five years ago, one of my first spiritual teachers, Bruce, gave me some wise advice: “Your guides will learn how to communicate with the manner you will best understand it. All you need to do is pay attention and take it seriously.” In other words, he was saying if you sense that a message is being given, be sure and respond to it. This will establish a channel of communication. He didn’t say this, but I’ll add this piece. Your guides like to participate in things that interest you. They know I am interested in numerology. So what better way to deliver a message I won’t miss? I didn’t. This message is very specific to what’s happening in my life right now as I embark on a career as a writer.
Here’s a bit of what Jeanne says about 45/9: “This vibration has a great deal of Wisdom and Universal Love for all mankind … You have come to some conclusions and occupy powerful positions … Remain true to yourself no matter what is going on around you. This vibration is anxious to present everything in the best and most optimistic way possible. You have your own unique position and must be willing to hold on to your own idealism even though you may lose some support of others that do not understand.” A timely message to say the least. I’m in the final stages of completing my book. Part of that process is getting feedback from readers. Each has their own opinions and criticisms, and not all of them are constructive or useful. I’ve got thick skin, yet I have walked this razors edge of self-doubt versus personal conviction. This reminder from spirit to trust my inner truth is exactly what I need right now as I decide which feedback to pay attention to and which to ignore. All that guidance came from the simple act of writing a check.
