A Winter Butterfly

What’s great about being a spirit partner is discovering your angels’ messages. And it gets even better when they come at a time when you need a little extra spiritual support and guidance.
It never ceases to amaze me how ingenious, resourceful, deliberate and profound our spirit guardians are. And how often, numerous factors have to come together to deliver their messages.
Imagine my client Cindy’s surprise, when she looked out her upstairs bedroom window one frosty evening and saw an unmistakable image had appeared on the hood of her husband’s car. It was a butterfly.
Cindy emailed me a photo of the car with the question, “What does it mean?” Followed by, “I need to schedule a reading.”
Butterflies have four stages of life: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa and adult. The butterfly doesn’t begin life with beautiful wings. To get them it must reach maturity (larva stage) and then entomb itself within a cocoon (chrysalis). Here it will go through a complete metamorphosis before emerging from the chrysalis.
Spiritually, the butterfly is universally recognized as a symbol of change, transformation and resurrection. When the butterfly symbol appears in life it represents a need for change and can signify a period of personal transformation. For the butterfly this transformation begins in the third stage of its life cycle when the larva has stopped growing. Only then does it enter the chrysalis and wait while the changes take place.
And what remarkable changes they are! Imagine the difference between the life of a humble caterpillar inching its way around the landscape and that of the magical butterfly whose wings carry it from flower to flower in the garden.
Yet while many symbols have a universal meaning, they are personal as well. Cindy had received a powerful and poignant message from her spirit guardians, which directly related to a challenge she was having in her life. When we spoke she shared that she felt her husband was “stuck” and had lost his usual zest for life. To her, he appeared to have “stopped growing” and she was worried that they would drift apart. Then she paused and said, “Maybe it’s me, maybe I’m the one who’s stuck.”
However, a closer examination of Cindy’s photo revealed more about her guide’s message. A car represents where you are going and how you’re navigating your life path. The butterfly had appeared on her husband’s car not hers, indicating the message was about him. Next, her ‘chance’ glance out the window had occurred during the few hours the image was visible (it had completely melted the next day); and if a full moon hadn’t been shining on it from above, the butterfly likely would have been hidden from view. Next, it was Cindy who was so intrigued by the image she took a picture of it. And finally, Cindy’s recent concerns about her husband had been troubling her. The message was clearly for Cindy about her husband and her spirit guardians had devised an ingenious and detailed message just for her.
But her guides had more to say about Cindy’s message which I explained to her during the reading. From the soul’s perspective Cindy was only seeing what was happening with her husband on the outside, yet something completely different and wonderful was happening on the inside. He is undergoing a personal metamorphosis that would make both of their lives more magical than ever. The butterfly was a message from her spirit guardians to allow time for the changes to take place. He will emerge from this important cycle of his life renewed, revitalized and ready to take flight. Cindy breathed a big sigh of relief, now at peace with her husband’s changes and excited about their future. This is exactly what her spirit guardian’s message was intended to achieve.
But none of this would have unfolded if Cindy had not been a good spirit partner. She trusted her intuition and followed it, taking the picture that led to a profound understanding of an important message from spirit. Now thanks to Cindy, a new winter butterfly species we named the Glacialis Palilio has been discovered. Translated from Latin: the Frosty Butterfly.
