New Moon Magic

Part of being a good spirit partner is helping our guardians fulfill our dreams and desires. Listening to and acting upon our intuition is critical, but we can also use the resources around us (or above us!) to assist our spirit guardians.
Since ancient times, people have been harnessing the moon’s mighty influence to improve their lives. Imagine the early ancients diligently tracking the moon’s cycles and noting the power of each phase. These wise humans created ceremonial traditions that have been discovered in every early culture on the earth. Back then the ceremonies often were elaborate religious ritualistic events where kings, chiefs, shamans and priests joined the common man to worship; not only to petition for personal desires but for the greater good of the community. Today we can practice these ancient rites in our own home.
In our modern world, the Full Moon gets the most attention. It IS big and bright and everyone can see it! But ancient wise men and women gave just as much respect (or possibly more) to the moon we cannot see—the dark, mysterious and fertile New Moon.
There’s good reason for this. The ancients had learned that the increasing light of the New Moon naturally made things grow, and that seeds planted at that time reaped greater harvests. Most people today are not tending crops; but everyone is planting seeds in the form of dreams, wishes and desires for themselves, as well as for society and the earth itself.
Do you want to beseech the moon to deliver your sacred requests to the great giver of light? It’s easy. All you need is a Moon Phase Calendar, a pure heart, a clear intention, a dedicated space and a few sacred tools.
· Get a reliable Moon Phase Calendar for your time zone. Plan to perform your ceremony within a few minutes after and up to eight hours following the exact time of the New Moon. (I have listed the 2017 Pacific Time Zone dates and times below.)
· Purify your heart. Be honest about “why” you want what you’re asking for. Always ask to manifest for the highest good of all concerned.
· Clarify your intention. What wishes and dreams do you hope to fulfill? I advise you to focus on “how do I want to feel about my manifested desires?” rather than a specific outcome. For instance, if it’s a new job, instead of focusing on a particular position or company, think about how you want to feel in your new job. This allows your spirit guardians to use all of the resources at their disposal to bring you a fulfilling outcome. (For more information about how to manifest using a symbol, see my previous blog post: The Feather.)
· Create a sacred space. It can be anywhere, but it should be dedicated to your ceremony. Make sure it is private, peaceful, and clutter free. Create an inviting ambiance with some flowers or soft music. And whenever possible, return to the same sacred space for your New Moon ceremony each month. Once a sacred space is activated, it continues to grow in power.
Collect your sacred tools. What’s most important here is that these tools feel sacred to you. But for sure you’ll need a pencil or pen and paper, candle (I use a tea light), sage and cedar or incense, matches, and any other objects that represent sacred power to you. This could be crystals, stones, photos of spiritual people, places or things. It could also include figurines or pictures of your spiritual VIPs like Jesus, Buddha, Mary, Ganesh…the list goes on. I also like to use a special cloth on my altar intended just for this purpose. This helps to consolidate and focus the energy; and each time I use it, I am reactivating the ceremonial power that has accumulated through time.
Now the fun part. Prepare your sacred space. Lay out your sacred cloth. Put your candle in the center of the cloth and surround it with your sacred objects. Closest to you place your sage and cedar or incense with matches and a pencil or pen and paper. Close your eyes and ask for Divine presence and protection. Extend a special invitation to your team of spirit guardians. Imagine a circle around you and your altar and ask that the space be made sacred. Keep meditating on this until you feel at peace. From this place of peace, light your candle. Next light the sage and cedar or incense and gently “smudge” the circle and everything within it. Close your eyes again and ask for clarity of your intention and the emotions that will best serve to bring your wishes and dreams to fruition, then write your wishes and dreams down. You can make as many individual wishes as you like, as long as they are each written on separate paper. But remember, less may be more. Wishes with unfocused intent behind them will not gain momentum and could diminish the power of your deepest desires. Put the papers under your candle.
Next close your eyes and say a prayer of gratitude to the Divine forces working on your behalf. You have placed your sacred wishes and dreams in their hands. As a good spirit partner you must now believe that what you truly desire is on its way to you. Faith enhances the momentum of your manifestation; a lack of faith slows it down.
I like to close the ceremony by saying, “So be it.” But you can say, “Amen,” “let it be,” “thy will be done,” or whatever words suit you. Then either blow out your candle or let it burn out. Collect your sacred objects and written wishes (I save mine in a special notebook), fold up your cloth and put it all in a special place until the next ceremony.
So be it!
