Full Moon Lunar Eclipse August 7

It’s big and bright. It’s the full moon!
However, this isn’t any full moon, it is a lunar eclipse. Eclipses are cosmic events that typically occur every six months, at the new and full moon cycles. A lunar eclipse occurs at the full moon and the solar eclipse occurs at the new moon. The solar eclipse will occur later this month on August 21.
Eclipses are more than benign cosmic events; they mark powerful phases of personal evolution. The degree and sign of an eclipse indicates what energies are at work. In this case the full moon lunar eclipse is at 15 degrees Aquarius and the new moon solar eclipse will be at 28 degrees of Leo. Those with planets or critical points within 5 degrees of the fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio will be significantly impacted by this eclipse. More on the solar eclipse in my next blog.
The lunar eclipse is a full moon and like all full moons it is about completion and endings. Think of the full moon as a reality check. What do you need to let go of in your life? What are you holding onto that no longer serves you? At the full moon, the universe supports us in blessing and releasing what has run its course. This energy is magnified at the eclipse.
But there is another important energy at work at the full moon and even more important when in an eclipse: Appreciation. When we appreciate the good of all we have experienced, we anchor a new energy for manifesting our heart’s desires, at the upcoming new moon.
How can you use the energy of the eclipse to create a more fulfilling future? Take stock of what’s up in your life right now that doesn’t serve your highest good. It could be relationships, jobs, habits, attitudes or beliefs. Use the light of the full moon to face what you have been hanging onto for the wrong reasons. It is normal to fear change, so allow the power of the eclipse to work in your life.
Here’s a good full moon lunar eclipse ritual:
Prepare your sacred space. Lay out your sacred cloth (if you have one). Place the candle at the center. Next to you place your sage and cedar or incense with matches and a pencil or pen and paper. Surround your candle with your sacred objects.
Close your eyes and ask for Divine presence and protection. Make a special invitation to your team of spirit guardians. Imagine a circle around you and your altar and ask that the space be made sacred. Keep meditating on this until you feel at peace. Then from this place, light your candle.
Next light the sage and cedar or incense and gently “smudge” the circle and everything within it. Close your eyes again and ask for clarity as you identify those things you need to let go of, then write them down. Put the paper/s under your candle.
Close your eyes and say a prayer of gratitude to the Divine forces working to release what no longer serves you. Then take a moment to appreciate (and forgive where necessary) each issue you have written down. Finally bless and release them to the universe for healing.
I like to close the ceremony by saying “So be it” but you can say “Amen,” “Let it be,” “Thy will be done,” or whatever words suit you.
